KidsCan Fundraisers win National Award!

This years Jailbreak winners, David Wood, and his fundraising partner in crime Simon Painter won the “Most Innovative Fundraiser” at the inaugural Justgiving Awards last night for their sponsored antics across Europe and Africa last October.

Simon says “"We had an absolutely fabulous evening and got to meet some fund raising heroes; we felt honoured to be amongst them" David adds “We couldn’t have done as well as we did without the help of Justgiving, Avient, BlueArc and Revolution and would like to say a big thank you for their support of our adventure.”   Their epic fundraising adventure took in seven countries, across three continents and both hemispheres, and raised over £1,500 for KidsCan from the Jailbreak, which is now over £2,500 with the Pay Pal sponsored prize of £1,000.

The team used a range of innovative technologies for the trip, from integrating social media sites like Facebook and Twitter, GPS tracking technology to show up to date info on how far they had travelled during the event and most importantly using justgiving’s ability to link your fundraising page into a website to allow as much fundraising as possible.

The awards ceremony itself was held in the Royal Institute of British Architects in central London last Wednesday (3rd February). The Keynote speaker for the evening was Major Phil Packer, who was injured in the line of duty in 2008 and has since raised over £1 million for charity. As a result of his fundraising, Major Packer received the Most Successful Fundraiser Award on the night.

Chris Swinton, our Events and Community Fundraiser said on the night: “This award is thoroughly well deserved. As we receive no statutory funding, we rely entirely on people like Simon and David to keep us going, and it’s great that their achievements have been recognised. Justgiving is a fantastic service, and has helped hundreds of our supporters go that extra mile with their fundraising. As we’re only a small charity, this is wonderful, and the donation from Pay Pal will go a long way in helping to cure children with cancer”

Andrew and Samantha Smith run Avient, based in Amesbury, and were David and Simon’s guests for the night and were delighted to see the team’s efforts rewarded.   Further details of the event, the innovative technology they used, and how to sponsor them, can be found on the Ragabonds Jailbreak Page
